Southwest Airlines' brand image on roller-coaster ride

For years — decades really — Southwest Airlines was the airline people loved to say they ‘luved,’ to use the carrier’s favorite spelling of the word.

But for the past month, since Southwest Flight 1380 on April 17 became the nation’s first fatal commercial passenger airline accident since 2009, Southwest has been in the spotlight in an entirely different way.

And perceptions of the carrier have shifted as Southwest has remained in the glare of the spotlight.
